The pilot project has been nothing but a “great success so far”, according to Kieran Brocklebank, Head of Innovation at United Utilities. “Our water network pump scheduling is improved as a result of their efforts. For the first time ever, we are getting the optimal water, customer, and energy schedule every day. So far, we have saved time and energy […] helping keep bills low for our customers and freeing up employee time for higher value tasks.” The Innovation Lab was advertised to 1,500 business, from small to large, beginning in Spring 2017. Over 80 applications across 5 different themes were received, with 22 applicants shortlisted for a “pitch day”. After pitching, 7 companies were selected for the lab.

The presentation explained in detail how the pilot deployment led to estimated energy savings of 17-22%, coupled with insights into areas in need of improvement. EMAGIN’s work on addressing these areas of concern has led to a significant increase in engagement with United Utilities. EMAGIN and United Utilities are now exploring potential avenues to scale their network solution, as well as deploying the technology in other applications.

“We are very excited to have presented the insights we’ve gathered from our deployment at UU’s Innovation Lab Demo Day. This pilot was a great opportunity for EMAGIN to embed itself with a large, forward-thinking utility, giving us a foothold in the UK market and hopefully beyond. We were able to demonstrate success, work with inspiring people, and showcase our innovation, which is all we could ask for“, said EMAGIN CEO and co-founder Thouheed Abdul Gaffoor.
